Terracotta Army of Qin Shi Huang
Hailed as the “Eighth Wonder of the World,” these are thousands of life-sized terracotta warriors, warhorses, and chariots unearthed from the burial pits of Qin Shi Huang’s mausoleum. Each terracotta warrior has a unique facial expression, hairstyle, and armor, making them truly breathtaking.
Opening Hours:
- Peak Season (March 16 – November 15): 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- Off-Season (November 16 – March 15): 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Recommendation: Hiring a licensed guide or renting an audio guide will provide a deeper understanding of the historical background.
Highlights: Pit 1 is the largest, Pit 2 is rich in detail, and Pit 3 was the command post.
After your visit, you can take the free shuttle bus to Lishan Garden for further exploration.
This is the best-preserved and largest ancient city wall in China. Cycling around it, which is about 13.7 kilometers, is the best way to experience the blend of ancient city layout and modern urban life.

- Recommended Entry Point: The South Gate (Yongning Gate) is the most lively and often features performances.
- Performance Times: A welcoming ceremony for the opening of the city takes place at 9:00 AM; other times include performances such as “Ironclad Warriors” and “Tang Dynasty Enchantress.”
- Cycling Tips: Bicycles are available for rent, but some sections of the road are uneven; please be careful.
- Recommended Route: The section from the South Gate to the East Gate offers the most beautiful scenery.
Big Wild Goose Pagoda and Tang Dynasty Never Sleeping City
The Big Wild Goose Pagoda was built to house the Buddhist scriptures brought back from India by the monk Xuanzang, and is a classic example of Tang Dynasty Buddhist architecture. Climbing the pagoda offers panoramic views of Xi’an city. Entry to the Da Ci’en Temple at the foot of the pagoda requires a separate ticket, while climbing the pagoda requires an additional ticket (purchased on-site).
North Square Musical Fountain: The evening performance, enhanced by lights, is truly spectacular. It’s recommended to check the schedule in advance.
South Square & Tang Paradise: The pedestrian street is brightly lit at night. The lights turn on around 6:30 PM in summer and around 6:00 PM in winter. Along the street, there are Tang-style performances, street performers, and food stalls, making it perfect for a nighttime stroll.
Shaanxi History Museum
If you are interested in the history of the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang dynasties, this is a treasure trove. The museum boasts a large and high-quality collection of bronzes, gold and silver artifacts, murals, and more.
Key Reminder:
- Advance booking with real-name registration is mandatory (on the official website or WeChat account). Free basic tickets are in high demand; it is recommended to book several days in advance.
- Please allow 3-4 hours for your visit. Guided tours (available in both Chinese and English) are extremely helpful.
Tang Paradise
This is a large-scale cultural theme park rebuilt on the site of the Tang Dynasty’s Furong Garden. It is not an original ancient site, but it perfectly reproduces the style of the royal garden of the Tang Dynasty.
Suggested visit duration: 3-4 hours. A guide map is available at the entrance.

Muslim Historic District
Passing through the Drum Tower, you enter this vibrant and lively neighborhood. This is where Xi’an’s Muslim community has lived for over a thousand years, and it’s also the city’s culinary heart.
Best time to visit: Evening to nighttime, when the lights are on and the atmosphere is at its best.
Exploration tips: The main street (Beiyuanmen) is crowded with tourists, but exploring the side alleys often reveals more authentic local snacks and quiet old courtyards.
Respect customs: When visiting the Huajue Lane Grand Mosque, please dress appropriately and remain quiet.
Huaqing Palace
Located at the foot of Mount Li, it was once a detached palace and villa for Tang Dynasty emperors, and the love story of Emperor Xuanzong and Yang Guifei is widely known. In modern history, the Xi’an Incident also took place here.
Transportation and Combined Tour: Located in Lintong District, the Terracotta Army site is about a 15-minute drive from the Terracotta Army, making it ideal to visit both sites on the same day.
Must-See Performance: The live-action historical dance drama “Song of Everlasting Regret,” set against the backdrop of Mount Li and staged at Jiulong Lake, is extremely impressive. Separate tickets are required and must be booked in advance.
Additional Recommendation: Take the cable car up Mount Li for panoramic views of Huaqing Palace and the scenery of Lintong.

Known as “the most precipitous mountain under heaven,” it is one of China’s Five Sacred Mountains, renowned for its rugged hiking trails and magnificent mountain scenery. The main peak, South Peak, rises to 2154.9 meters above sea level and is a sacred site for Taoism, as well as a must-visit destination for hiking and adventure enthusiasts.
Hiking options: You can choose the West Peak cable car (least strenuous), the North Peak cable car (classic route), or hike the entire route (high physical fitness required). A one-day trip is recommended to go “west up, north down”.
Essential items: Hiking boots, gloves, windproof jacket, plenty of water and food. A headlamp is needed for night hikes to watch the sunrise.
Note: The “Skywalk” and “Eagle Turns” require an additional fee for safety harnesses; those with a fear of heights should choose carefully. The temperature difference at the summit is significant; warm clothing is necessary even in summer.

Xi’an’s cuisine is as rich as its history, with noodles and beef and mutton being the absolute mainstays, boasting a rich flavor that leaves a lasting impression.
Chinese hamburger: Crispy buns filled with slow-cooked and flavorful braised pork, jokingly called “Chinese hamburgers”.
Beef and mutton stew with bread: You break the hard bread into small pieces yourself and then take it back to the kitchen to cook in mutton soup, which gives you a strong sense of participation.
Biangbiang noodles: hand-pulled noodles as wide as a belt, with chili oil as the soul of the dish.
cold skin noodles: made from rice or wheat flour, smooth and slightly spicy, a great way to cool off in summer.
Zenggao（甑糕）: Made from glutinous rice, red dates, and kidney beans, it is soft, sticky, sweet, and commonly found at breakfast stalls.

Arrival in Xi’an
Xi’an is the largest transportation hub in Northwest China, with a highly developed air and rail network.
Airline: Xi’an Xianyang International Airport (Airport Code: XIY)
- The airport is located approximately 40 kilometers northwest of the city center.
Ways to get to the city center:
- Metro Line 14 (preferred)： Direct access to the metro station from the airport terminal. It takes approximately 40 minutes to reach Xi’an North Railway Station, from where you can transfer to Line 2 or Line 4 to reach the city center. The fare is approximately 8 yuan, and operating hours are approximately 6:00–22:30.
- Airport Shuttle Bus： Multiple routes are available to the Bell Tower, Xi’an Railway Station, High-tech Zone, etc. The journey takes approximately 60–90 minutes, and the fare is 25–30 yuan. Tickets can be purchased at the airport arrival hall or paid by scanning a QR code.
- Taxi/Ride-hailing： Approximately 1 hour to the city center (Bell Tower), costing approximately 120–150 yuan (including highway tolls). Using Didi (a ride-hailing app) is recommended to avoid the risk of haggling.
Railway: Xi’an North Station (Main High-Speed Rail Hub)
- High-speed trains offer direct service from cities such as Beijing (approximately 4.5 hours), Shanghai (approximately 6 hours), and Chengdu (approximately 3.5 hours).
Getting to the city center:
- Metro Line 2 (directly to the Bell Tower, Nanshaomen, etc.) or Line 4 (directly to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Tang Paradise). Operating hours are approximately 6:00–23:30, and fares range from 2 to 7 yuan.
- Taxi to the city center takes about 40 minutes and costs approximately 50–60 yuan.
Other train stations: Xi’an Station (regular speed trains, near the ancient city wall), Xi’an West Station (less frequently used). Please be sure to check the station name on your ticket.
City transportation
- Subway: Covers major attractions and supports mobile payment via QR code.
- Taxi/Ride-hailing: DiDi app is recommended for its convenience and transparent pricing.
- Walking and Cycling: Attractions are concentrated within the ancient city walls, and walking often leads to unexpected discoveries.
